Director's Bio - <3 As a Hispanic female with old fashion up bringing I was always looking to succeed and get ahead. After being a home health aide for 2 yrs and finally starting college, I knew I was capable of more. A good friend/classmate recommended me at a Management Office in 2006. I was hired as a receptionist, I continued to attend school and I suddenly gained the balance I was looking for. I loved working in the office environments, that was my thing.
My dedication to learn the building management business was strong, putting in extra work and overtime, I was awarded employee of the yr within my 1st yr of employment, followed by several promotions.
In 2007 I completed my Associates degree in Office Technologies with high honors. I was soon doing it all. This enabled me to stick my nose in everything from the handy work to the paper work. I worked for upscale building owners as well as slumlords.
I moved into an apartment owed by one of the landlords I worked for. There were nights I would have to take the office heater home to keep me warm. I had to heat up water to take a shower. After work I came home to an ice box. Meanwhile coughing up my rent. Tenants were surprised to walk in to complain and see my face there, like aren't you ..... uh huh ! I was more flustered than them, knowing we weren't getting service but still paying. 311 had to inter-fear eventually due to the neglect. If I didn't live there I doubt anything would have ever been done , as the building was basically left to freeze without a care. I personally couldn't speak up, I worked for the people for crying out loud. At moments I felt ashamed to know this and not say anything, It wasn't fair that they just didn't care. It's not easy to be a person like me and watch tenants get abused off someone else's greed and negligence while getting rich. So maybe giving people pointers from the knowledge I have will make a lil difference.
On a positive note, the knowledge and personal development that the building management industry has given me is priceless. I established a income and learned how to run a management company the proper way. Unfortunately when your not head of operation, things are pretty much, not in your hands. Nonetheless, I meet some great unforgettable people that I am forever grateful for ! I got the opportunity to help my Hispanic people and carry on their cry's. I embraced the values of loyalty, partnership and teamwork. I developed how essential and spiritually rewarding it is to display compassion in the workplace.
